Going Thailand? Bangkok city is one of the famous destinations. However there are few places outside (nearby) Bangkok that you can visit.
Koh Kret or Kret Island is located in Nontaburi province around 1 hour drive from Bangkok. Koh Kret is surrounded by Chaopraya river which the transportation from the mainland to the island is only by boat. The island is well-known for handmade pottery and batik products.
At the entrance to the pier, you can find few shops selling handmade hat starting from 20 Thai Baht (USD 0.50) to 100 Thai Baht (USD 3). If you forget to bring your hat, just buy one you will not regret especially on a very sunny day.
There is boat taxi which you can take to cross over to Koh Kret. There you can rent bicycle and cycle around the island if you want to do some exercise. Alternatively, you can hire the whole boat for 4-6 persons cost around 600 Thai Baht (USD 17).
The boat will bring you to few attractions; Batik house, few famous temples, Thai dessert house, Pottery house. You can enjoy the view of traditional way of living where every house has own pier and at least a small boat.
We stopped by at the temple to pray and make some merit. For Thai Buddhism, we believe in giving life to others by releasing fish into the river after praying. There will be no fishing at the temple area. If you visit temples in Thailand that is next to the river, you will find lots of fish where you can feed them too.
At Thai dessert house, there are various type of traditional Thai dessert some of which cannot be found in Bangkok. This is food paradise for those who has sweet tooth. Take note that some of the desserts are freshly made and no preservative thus do not keep it for too long.
Handmade products are famous in this island. One of them is plant holder made from branches bent into shapes. This is perfect for those who like to keep small plants at home or office. Beautify your plants with this cute natural holders.
Pottery house is our main highlight in this trip. The very big human size oven to burn all the pottery is made from soil many years ago and is still in use. There are so many items to choose ranging from small little pot to very sophisticated hand craft vase. The price is incredibly affordable.
Lastly some memorable item to bring home, get your ice soda or fresh orange or lime juice in this cute pottery. You can choose the pot which has string for you to easily carry while walking around at only 25-30 Thai Bath (USD 0.70-0.80). The clay pot will help to keep your drink cold and you can buy additional lid at only 5 Thai Bat (USD 0.10).

คือแบบเที่ยวไหนดี เอาที่ไปเช้าเย็นกลับ ใกล้ๆ กทม ขับรถไม่ไกลมาก เกาะเกร็ดละกัน คือวันนึงไปทำธุระแถวๆ แจ้งวัฒนะ เห็นป้ายบอกทางไปปากเกร็ดพอดี
เกาะเกร็ดอยู่จังหวัดนนทบุรี ขับรถไปประมาณ 1 ชั่วโมงจากกรุงเทพฯ คือก็มีแวะกินข้าว กินขนมตามทางนิดๆ หน่อยๆ เกาะเกร็ดถูกล้อมรอบด้วยแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา จะข้ามไปก็ต้องนั่งเรือ ไปจอดรถที่วัดสนามเหนือ ไปเช้าๆ หน่อยแดดจะได้ไม่ร้อนมาก แล้วที่จอดรถก็ไม่แน่นมาก
ไปถึงวัดประมาณ 9 โมงกว่าๆ ปากทางเข้าท่าเรือมีขายหมวกสาน น่ารักมาก มีหลายแบบเลย แถมไม่แพงด้วย เริ่มต้นใบละ 20 บาท เผื่อใครลืมเอาหมวกเอาร่มมา ซื้อซักใบไว้ใส่กันร้อนก็ดีนะ
มีเรือข้ามฟากไปเกาะเกร็ด แต่ไปถึงก็ต้องเดิน หรือไม่ก็เช่าจักรยาน ไม่เอาดีกว่าคุณหนูๆ เดินไม่ไหว อากาศมันร้อนมากๆ ไปช่วงเดือนเมษาพอดี เลยว่าจะเช่าเรือเล็กเหมาลำ ไปถามคุณป้าขายน้ำ นางบอกว่ามีๆ เดี๋ยวจะเรียกมาให้ ค่าเช่าเรือ 600 บาท 2 ชั่วโมง เรือไม่เล็กมากนั่งได้ประมาณ 4-6 คน เอาวะเพื่อความสบาย โดนฟันราคารึเปล่าไม่รู้
นั่งเรือชมวิวไปเรื่อยๆ มองๆ ดูรู้สึกว่าทุกบ้านจะต้องมีท่าน้ำ และเรืออย่างน้อย 1 ลำ บางบ้านท่าน้ำสวยเชียว เหมือนในละคร เวลานางเอกมานั่งร้อยมาลัยอยู่ที่ท่าน้ำ ส่วนพระเอกก็พายเรือผ่านมา ฮ่าๆกำลังรับลมชมวิว ไม่นานก็ถึงสถานีแรก เป็นบ้านบาติก ข้างในเป็นบ้านไม้ขายพวกกระเป๋าทำมือ ดอกไม้แห้ง ของกระจุ๊กกระจิ๊ก ข้างนอกอากาศร้อน แต่ในบ้านเย็นมากเลย บ้านริมน้ำ
ต่อไปก็ไปวัดเพื่อสวดมนต์และทำบุญ ที่ท่าน้ำนี้ปลาเยอะมากๆ ถึงมากที่สุด ตัวก็ใหญ่มาก ที่วัดมีขายอาหารปลา 20 บาท เลยซักหน่อย ไม่แน่ใจว่าใช่ปลาสวายรึเปล่า ที่นี่มีแพขายอาหารด้วยค่อนข้างใหญ่เลย จะนั่งกินข้าวหรือซื้อน้ำก็ไม่เลว
สถานที่ต่อไปคือบ้านขนมหวาน พอตอนไปถึงมีอีกกรุ๊ปนึงกำลังซื้อของกันอย่างเมามัน ที่นี้มีขนมไทยมีชนิดต่างๆ บางอย่างเป็นขนมโบราณหาซื้อในกทมยากมาก ส่วนใหญ่ขนมที่ที่สดๆ ใหม่ๆ จะไม่มีสารกันบูด ถ้าซื้อแล้วไม่กินเลย อย่าลืมถามคนขายว่าเก็บได้กี่วัน ออกมาจากบ้านขนมหวาน หิ้วถุงกันคนละ 3-4 ถุงกันเลยทีเดียว
พวกสินค้าแฮนด์เมดก็มีเยอะ กระถางต้นไม้ที่ทำจากกิ่งไม้น่ารักมากๆ ดัดเป็นรูปทรงต่างๆ ราคาก็ไม่แพงด้วย จะเอาไว้ใส่ต้นไม้ หรือวางบนโต๊ะใส่พวกเครื่องเขียน หรือว่าจะซื้อต้นไม้เล็กๆ กลับบ้านก็มีเหมือนกัน
บ้านเครื่องปั้นดินเผาเป็นไฮไลท์หลักของเราในการเดินทางครั้งนี้ ที่นี่ยังใช้เตาอบเก่าแก่ขนาดใหญ่มากๆ คนสิบคนเดินเข้าไปได้ พวกเครื่องปั้นดินเผามีเยอะมาก แบบธรรมดาก็มี แบบแกะสลักก็มี หม้อแบบอีเย็นเอาไว้ต้มยา ต้มแกงก็มี หม้อเล็กๆ น่ารักๆ ก็มี ราคาไม่แพงด้วย
สุดท้ายอย่าลืมซื้อน้ำ จะเป็นน้ำอัดลม หรือน้ำส้มน้ำมะนาวคั้นสด อะไรก็ได้ที่อยากดื่ม ซื้อแบบที่ใส่มาในแก้วดินเผานะ มีหลายแบบหลายลายเลย มันน่ารักมากๆ คือถือเดินดื่มไปเรื่อยๆ ดื่มหมดก็เอากลับบ้านไปใส่ของ ใส่ต้นไม้ ใส่อะไรก็ว่าไป
